Doctor Trish Dwight
Trish Dwight is a Research Fellow in the Cancer Genetics Laboratory at the Kolling Institute (Sydney, Australia). As part of her PhD (University of Sydney) and postdoctoral (Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm) work Trish studied the genetic causes of parathyroid and thyroid tumours, identifying chromosomal regions and gene rearrangements associated with these tumours. Trish then spent a number of years within the pharmaceutical industry as a scientific communicator, focused on oncology and endocrinology. Since returning to academia, her research has concentrated on the application of massively parallel sequencing to identify genomic anomalies associated with endocrine tumours – in particular phaeochromocytoma and paraganglioma – and understanding the functional effects of these anomalies, with the aim of improving clinical management and care of individuals and families with these tumours.
